When computers, technology and the internet changed the need for ink on paper forever, John McDevitt changed his course and left a 27 year sales and management career in the printing industry. A long time boat owner with a 100 Ton USCG Masters License, John headed his career ambitions toward the water and the boating industry. John soon found himself handling a wide range of Captain’s responsibilities on behalf of manufacturers, dealers and boat owners. His geographical experience includes the entire east coast from Maine to Florida, the Erie Barge Canal, the Great Lakes, the Inland Rivers (Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee Rivers, Tom Bigbee Waterway – and the Great Loop twice), the Gulf of Mexico and the Bahamas aboard vessels, both inspected and uninspected, up to 110 feet. In between time on the water, John has embraced the technical side and studied industry construction and safety standards. John holds eight ABYC Technical Certifications and has been factory trained for MAN Engine, Caterpillar and Detroit Diesel and many others. John is an Accredited Marine Surveyor and a member of SAMS (Society of Accredited Marine Ssurveyors. He actively participates in industry standards writing activities with both the ABYC and the NFPA. He is the Chairman for the NFPA 302 Pleasure and Commercial Watercraft Committee. He has written many industry articles on marine electricity and marine fire protection. John occasionally teaches marine electricity to the trade and has spoken at Trawlerfest, IBEX and other various boating industry venues. He performs electrical surveys aboard boats focusing on corrosion and stray current problems as well as other consultation and expert witness activities. John was awarded Top New Boat Sales Overall for the company in 2013 as well as the Bluewater Sales Achievement Award in recognition of his commitment to excellence and outstanding sales results in both 2013, 2014 and 2016. He is also a licensed Florida Yacht Broker. John has assisted many people in finding the boat of their dreams and then further helped them understand how to handle, care for and enjoy their new boat. John has spent 30+ years boating with his family on the shores of New Jersey and the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. He still enjoys the Bay and keeps his own ACMY and CC boats in Kent Narrows. John blends years of boating experience and technical knowledge with a professional business demeanor that satisfies a wide range of his customer’s needs and interests.
