Jan Boone—how does a person begin to describe this incredible woman? Jan was by far the hardest working person I ever met. She never quit, she never tired, she never gave up, she never stopped, she never missed a beat. Jan hired me at Hatteras Yachts in January of 2000. Not only was she the best boss I ever had, she was my friend. There wasn’t anything Jan wouldn’t do for you. Over all the years, there are so many wonderful, precious memories, but definitely the most important and life changing thing she did for me was, upon hearing of my possible decision to move back to Canada many years ago, she was bound and determined to not let that happen. She gathered the sales team together to come up with a plan to get me to stay. And that they did. She found me a husband. :-) Jan left Hatteras in 2008 for Jarrett Bay Yacht Sales and my one regret was that I did not join her then, but eventually I did in 2016. I was so happy and so proud to be working for her once again. Jan made you feel like we all mattered, our work was invaluable and very appreciated. There will never be another Jan. I’m so thankful I had her in my life for over 19 years. I think of her daily and will miss her forever! Connie Mitchell Jan Boone, I met her during the merger between Bluewater and Jarrett Bay. She quickly became so many things to me: Trusted Advisor, Coach, Cheerleader, Mentor, Sounding Board, Friend, Inspirational Leader, etc. I have come to find out that Jan had the uncanny ability to find 'common ground' with nearly everyone. While the rest of the world operated on a 24-hour day, hers must have had more time. She always had time to take my call, text messages, emails, no matter what time of the day or night, and I was but one of the many people that she touched on a daily basis. I think of her nearly every day and will forever be appreciative of the trust and confidence she gave to me. I am thankful for Jan's influence in my life. Scott James A Tribute to the Life and Legacy of Jan Boone I had the great fortune of working closely with Jan Boone, as a mate on the Hatterascal in the late 90’s. As soon as I met her I was immediately drawn to her positive energy. She always had nothing but good things to say and made everyone around her feel welcome. She would do anything to help. She was an innovator, a trendsetter, and transcended gender barriers in the marine industry. I was excited to work with her once again in a capacity with Bluewater Yacht Sales. It did not matter what day of the week or time of night, she was always there for you. She had so much experience, she could walk you through a situation and explain in a way you could understand. Like a great captain or mate, Jan was always thinking five steps ahead of the situation. She cared about her family, she cared about you and your family, above all, she cared about the customer! I am truly blessed to get to spend as much time with her as I did the last year and a half of her life. Not a day goes by we do not miss her. Daryl Brower The first time I met Jan, she had a presence about her; a person of high expectations, perfection and hard work... not only did she verbally express this presence, but her actions confirmed it! I met Jan in the 80s at Hatteras while I was managing final make-ready and delivery of the yachts. For many years I had a very close working relationship with Jan. She never mixed words. You always knew where she stood. You may not have always agreed, but she never budged when she was convinced she was correct—and she was 99% of the time! I learned a tremendous respect for Jan early on and later had the pleasure of working for her at Bluewater Yacht Sales. I cannot come close to explaining the values and hard work she instilled in me and will likely never know the extent of her influence. With many positive influences in my life and career, there is no doubt Jan is on the top of that list. She was an amazing motivator and always had the right words. I miss her every day! Danny Meadows Jan Boone was a wonderful person to work with and for. She had a way of keeping everyone motivated in their roles. I was honored to know her, as a coworker as well as a friend. She will NEVER be forgotten. Heidi Speciale
