OnBoard Magazine - Issue XV - 2023 Season

There’s no question that being a yacht sales professional looks like a lot of fun from the outside—access to incredible boats, hanging out at the largest boat shows and marinas, testing and delivering new yachts, joining customers on epic fishing trips and cruising rendezvous event—but we can tell you it’s not all leisure and docktails. It also takes an immense amount of preparation and an around-the-clock work ethic to be successful; juggling contacts, contracts, communications, travel, documentation, and emails, oh, the emails… Bluewater prides itself in building one of the top teams of dedicated sales professionals and support staff: folks who are always willing to grind it out “8 days a week” to meet the company and customers’ goals. Despite the large geographic region we cover, one part of the formula is to meet regularly to measure performance, set goals and improve teamwork. In January 2023, the entire Bluewater Yacht Sales team came together in Raleigh, North Carolina, for our Annual Sales Meeting to do just that. Sales and administrative staff spent two days together to hear fromindustry experts, learnof upcoming business trends, build relationships with teammates, and highlight the achievements of the previous year. We were joined by guest speakers from our manufacturers and brand partners, representatives from vendors, as well as presentations by Bluewater teammembers. The most anticipated portion of the annual event is our awards ceremony andbanquet, wherewe recognize our topperformers. This year’s Top Overall Sales and Top Brokerage Sales Awards were presented to Scott James, with the Top New Boat Sales Award going to the duo of Jud Black and Carl Beale. Karen Monahan earned the Jan Boone Memorial Award for hard work and dedication, and over twenty other team members received awards for their achievements and commitment to excellence. Describing Scott James, the year’s top earner, Bluewater General Manager Wyatt Lane reveals some of the secret sauce, including that Scott’s wife Suzanne travels with him so he can be working the phones and concentrating on business.
